This new publication is a short history of textile printing on the River Wandle at Liberty Mill, now known as Merton Abbey Mills. It will be officially launched at the Wheelhouse at Merton Abbey Mills at 12.00 Mid-day on Thursday 23rd November 2000 and will be conducted by the Mayor of Merton Cllr Ian Munn.
This publication has been part funded by Merton Library & Heritage Service and a Rail Map sponsored by Tramlink. It has been written by Kevin Leyden a former Merton School Teacher and Founder Member of the Wandle Industrial Museum.
Its a fascinating history which takes us right to the present day with an illuminating foreword by John Hawks who is the Manager of Merton Abbey Mills and has been since it was restored and re-opened in 1989. The recommended retail selling price will be £3.95 less 20% for W.I.M. members who buy directly from the Museum. It will make an ideal Christmas present.
This event is being sponsored by Merton Abbey Mills and Wandle Heritage Ltd who run the Wheelhouse.
