The committee will be meeting as this Newsletter goes to press, but I can report that the events are taking shape.
Events being planned for this year include: Guided Botanical Walks , Cycle Rides, Group Runs, Walks led by local Ramblers Groups, Clean-Ups, Art made from Rubbish! as well as the popular static displays and demonstrations we had last year. Mary will again be puting on a block printing display at the Chapter House, as part of the Museum of London displays there. There will be a sponsored tree climb in Carshalton, and, as last year, the events will co-incide with London bike week. My own personal hope is that we will succeed in getting the bridge/gangway over Wandle mouth opened, for the magnificent views it will give.
Our own new Nelson exhibition will open the day before, on 11th June. Unfortunately this co-incides with the Mitcham Carnival, whose date has only just been released. We can not do both, but hope that, as both events are taking place in Mitcham, guests and visitors will have no difficulty in enjoying both.
This will be the second year in succession we have been unable to have a stall at the Mitcham Carnival - last year we had already committed ourselves to the Wimbledon Village Fair when the date was announced.
The WVF are arranging a 0870 phone number this year for updates to the program, and contact details for each of the four boroughs. In addition all public libraries will have details of events in their areas, and up to date information will, as always, appear on the web site. For a taster check it out at www.wandlevalleyfestival.org.uk.
In the meantime, please keep these dates in your diary.
